Art Annex 21 is the name of Helen Powell’s home-studio-gallery in Charleston, SC. She also maintains a studio in Boston and exhibits both places.
Helen Powell was born in the once-farm suburbs north of NYC. She has studied art history, art education and oil painting up and down the East Coast. Spending additional time in the South and the Southwest has enabled her to broaden both her subject matter and a realist style, which evokes the softened edges and feel of Impressionism.
“My paintings reflect the many interests and activities that I share with family and friends.”
Her still life paintings focus on food, vegetables and flowers, universal themes that she simplifies to remind the viewer of both their essence and their appeal.
Her landscape paintings focus on simplified golf course scenes, to capture the essence of that iconic landscape, as well as gardens and farmscapes.
